Privacy Policy
Privacy is a core part of SpeedMetric. This page explains, in plain language, what we do and don't do with your data.
No account required
You can run a speed test without creating an account or providing an email address, phone number, or any login. We don't ask for personal information to use the tool.
What the test collects
The speed test runs in your browser and exchanges data with our test endpoints to measure download, upload, and latency. Your device's IP address is necessarily visible to our servers to route this traffic, as with any website. We do not build a permanent profile from it, and we minimize any retention needed for server selection or abuse prevention. You can also view that public address on the what is my IP page.
Browser network information
When your browser exposes the Network Information API, we read the connection type (e.g. Wi-Fi or cellular) to display context alongside your result. This stays in your browser and is not used to identify you. When the API is unavailable, we show "Unknown" rather than guessing.
No selling, minimal tracking
We do not sell personal information and we avoid unnecessary third-party tracking scripts. Test payloads themselves are streamed and discarded — they are never stored in a database.
What's my IP
The "what is my IP" page shows the public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for your connection so you can see them. A single request only reveals one IP family; the other is looked up from your browser against an IPv4-only or IPv6-only endpoint when needed. That lookup is not stored as a history or profile. Approximate city or country, when shown, comes from the network path (for example CDN headers), not from GPS.
